Those pesky tent caterpillars have made their return to the Prince George area.
They’ve started popping up in the last week or so, including the Hart home of Robin Langin. She says she’s lucky her four-year-old granddaughter Emma likes collecting them.
“Our granddaughter loves them and she likes to look at them in her hand and collect a bunch of them,” Langin says. “She has little baby ones and bigger ones and friends and cousins.”
Jos Van Hage, owner of Art Knapp’s, says that’s a late arrival for the pests. He’s expecting fewer caterpillars than last year, but still plenty to go around. People have a number of options to combat the caterpillars. They range in price from around $13 up to $60, and can be either organic or chemical.
“Don’t use axle grease,” Van Hage says. “When it breaks down, the rain goes into the ground and of course, it contaminates around the tree.”
