The first ever Law Enforcement Torch Relay is being hailed a success. More than 150 people walked and ran the 3.5 kilometre event. The torch run raises funds and awareness for Special Olympic athletes in the province. The inaugural event raised more than 6-thousand dollars. The detachment has committed to the run next year as well, with a goal of raising even more money.
“The Prince George Detachment are really honoured and fortunate to host our first Law Enforcement Torch Run” says Supt. Warren Brown, Officer in Charge of the Prince George RCMP. “Numerous law enforcement agencies and RCMP Detachments have been doing this for many years, and now that we have been a part of this event and experienced the overwhelming community support and appreciation of the athletes, I look forward to continuing this event for years to come.
