The local Seniors Resource Centre and the Prince George Community Response Network have teamed up to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
About 50 supporters donned purple to show their support for the cause.
“This is Prince George’s way of trying to get people out and just increase the awareness in our own community,” says Wendy Brophy, assistant executive director, at AiMHi Prince George.
The BC Association of Community Response Networks defines adult abuse as “any action, which causes harm to another,” including financial, physical, sexual or psychological harm.
“All victims of abuse deserve to be supported and when they reach out for help, we need to be there to support them,” says Acting Mayor Jillian Merrick.
After the walk, the Seniors Centre hosted a gathering from 1 to 3 p.m. at their office on Victoria Street, where people could learn more about abuse.
