Talks of a skate park in the Hart have been resurrected, after last night’s neighbourhood meeting.
Mayor Lyn Hall says the park could look something like the city’s lone skate park on Massey Drive, across the street from the YMCA of Northern BC. The tentative plan would start with council deliberations in the fall, with groundbreaking possible next April.
“There’s been a lot of people asking for it and there’s a lot of skaters up there,” says Zachery Trent, who plans to spend much of his summer holidays at the Massey Drive park.
The project would run about $450,000, but Hall says the Nechako Rotary Club has already been fundraising for years.
“We want to participate. We want to help make it happen, in terms of some of the fundraising that we do,” says Ken Pendergast with the Nechako Rotary Club. He says up to $40,000 has been raised for the project over the past four years.
Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park has been mentioned as a possible location.
