SkyFest 2015 takes off in Quesnel tomorrow.
Organizers expect 15,000 to 16,000 people to attend the international airshow over the weekend. Friday’s twilight show runs from 8 p.m. to about 9:45 p.m. The events go all day Saturday and Sunday, with gates opening at 8 a.m. and the performances wrapping up at 4:15 p.m.
“It’s a matter of pride,” says SkyFest 2015 director Sharon MacDonald. “It’s bringing people in. It’s saying ‘this is our community’ and we can do this and we’re proud of it.”
Quesnel city councillor Scott Elliott says the event draws people from all over Northern B.C., meaning a big economic impact for Quesnel.
“People aren’t just coming to the show and spending money here. They’re buying food, they’re getting groceries in town, staying at hotels. It’s just massive for the city,” Elliott says.
