The Prince George Cougars have opened their preseason schedule, but are still looking for their first win after falling 6-3 in Kamloops Friday night.
The Blazers rattled off three unanswered goals in the first nine minutes of the game to take a commanding lead. The Cougars answered just nine seconds later, when Kolby Johnson put one past Kamloops netminder Connor Ingram. Forty-eight seconds later, the Blazers restored the three-goal lead with a Matt Needham marker. Each team scored twice in the second period, including Cougars goals from Max Martin and Kody McDonald. The third period went scoreless and Kamloops took the win, while out-shooting Prince George 42-19.
Tavin Grant and Patrick Gora split the goaltending duties for the Cats. Next up for the Cougars is a Saturday night tilt in Kelowna, as Prince George tests itself against last year’s WHL champions.
