UNBC students had their own party tonight to watch the election results come in. And the reaction across the board was shock at just how well the liberals did.
UNBC political scientist Gary Wilson says he’s not shocked by a liberal win, but he wasn’t expecting such a large majority.
“There was talk of a liberal majority last week, from the leader Trudeau, but didn’t expect that they would do this well.”
While students are split on which parties they support- Wendel Schwab says he thinks the will to change moved Canadian voters.
“I think that Canadians are being very decisive and standing up and saying no conservatives we do not agree with your anti-Islamic agenda, it’s not the way we operate in this country.”
As students watched election commentary on a large TV screen, they had their smartphones in hand with the results updating every 10 seconds. Student Michala Jansa says social media played an important role right through the election campaign.
“It was really interesting to see how certain riding would switch back and forth as certain results came in.”
Canadians sending a Liberal party back to government will be remembered years from now, much like the learning experience for these students.
