From handmade scarves, to pottery, and breads and jams, homemade products are on display this weekend at UNBC’s Artisans of the North Fair. Over 81 artisans from across Northern BC have come to town for the two-day event.
Vendors pay a fee for setting up a table. Usually the money goes to UNBC’s sports teams. But this year, they’re sharing the wealth and there are new beneficiaries. The University’s Candace Wotten says two new groups will benefit from the weekend event.
“The proceeds this year benefit the UNBC outdoors club and the environmental engineering students association. The proceeds will help them with travel to conferences. With meetings and bookings throughout Prince George.”
Local artisan Laura Ejack makes all of the scarves and cloaks sold at her business Dragonfly Designs. She says an event like this is a great place to shop because you are guaranteed a unique item.
“I make one of a kind capes, ponchos, purses, scarves, just about a little bit of everything and I never make two of the same. Women love that because they know they’ve got an original.”
The fair wraps up today at 4 pm. Admission and parking are both free.
