The investment community isn’t likely to be impacted either way by a letter sent to Prime Minister-elect Justin Trudeau by a group of Northern BC Chiefs. The letter urges a meeting and hopes Trudeau stays form to his pre-election commitment on projects like the Northern Gateway pipeline and the Site C hydroelectric dam in the Peace Country.
Chief Terry Teegee, Tribal Chief of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council, said, “We are not against development, the question is what kind of development is going to occur, and how decisions will be made about that development. Right now the system is broken.”
Stan Mitchell with KPMG says the letter will not likely be viewed with alarm by the investment community. He feels it may be seen as prudent. And, even more so than the letter, Trudeau’s own policies set out in the campaign could be more disturbing.
