Matt Pearce, a prominent figure in the local sports community, died this morning at the age of 48. A past president of the Prince George Teachers Association, Pearce served as a teacher in the school district for a number of years.
Pearce was a 1999 inductee into the PG Sports Hall of Fame. A product of the Prince George Minor Football Association, he went on to win a 1986 Vanier Cub with UBC, and a Grey Cup in 1990 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He also has served as a coach in local football, rugby, and basketball. He leaves behind his wife Sherrie, and two children; Tenley and Colburn.
