Ten CNC students are getting ready to enter the job market as heavy equipment operators.
The program through CNC was made possible with funding from the Ministry of Jobs, Skills and Tourism, and was targeted towards individuals who would not normally be able to access heavy equipment training.
Since October the students have had a hands of approach to the program. First learning safety skills and then having the opportunity to get out there and learn how to operate the equipment.
Student Olivia Peters said she enrolled in the program because of the expected growth in the LNG industry.
“I’ve actually just seen on the news that they’re going to a shortage of heavy equipment operators in the near future. So I definitely think that’s a great opportunity to get into the industry right now so that int he future you’ll have plenty of employment and businesses opportunities to grow with your career.”
