A pair of B.C. residents have been identified as the victims of Wednesday’s two vehicle collision on Highway 16, 4 kilometres east of the Tete Jaune junction with Highway 5. 25 year old Karmen Anne McGee of New Westminster was behind the wheel of an SUV that collided with a loaded tractor trailer unit. It was driven by 64 year old Bruce Donald Sykes of Vernon. Both drivers were declared dead at the scene.
RCMP, WorkSafe BC, the province’s Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement department and the BC Coroners Service are continuing to investigate.
The crash occurred around 8:30 in the morning, closing the only highway between central BC and central Alberta for most of the day.
