It’s a little over a week until the curtain rises at the Prince George Playhouse, debuting UNBC’s production of the Addams family.
Arielle Bernier is not only directing and producing in the show. She’s also starring in it, playing the lead role of Wednesday Addams.
“Rehearsals are going amazing. We’re a week and a half from opening night so it’s all kind of in that point where it’s coming together, which is wonderful to see. The Addams family kind of revolves around Wednesday. She’s grown up. She’s found in love. And this nice normal boy from Ohio and shes introducing him and his family to her family. In hopes that they like each other because they’re planning on getting married. But they haven’t told anyone yet.”
The cast is made up of mostly university students, with some community members as well. The shows youngest player is 14 year old Jared Quarenghi from Duchess Park.
“I play Pugsley, he’s moody. He gets really jealous really easily. he likes being tortured and he just has a really weird personality. He’s part of the Addams so of course he’s going to be a little bit weird.”
Quarenghi says hitting the high notes in his solos is his biggest obstacle, but he’s up for the challenge and grateful for the mentorship he’s received along the way.
“They’re really good, I’ve only every worked with older people when I’ve done these kind of productions. They’ve been awesome. I couldn’t ask for better people to work with.”
The show opens March 31st and runs through April 9th. Tickets are available at the UNBC Wintergarden and Books & Company.
