Six year old Aiden Barwise is getting ready for a trip of a lifetime. He’s going to Disney world with his mom, dad, brother, and sisters. The trip has been made possible through the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Aiden’s family has wanted to take him since he was a little boy. As his mom Tracey explains, they haven’t been able to go because they’ve face issues with getting health insurance.
“We have wanted to take him for years, we just couldn’t get health insurance to cross the border. So for us this is huge because we finally to get to take him to where he’s been asking to go for the past five years.”
Now Aiden has been granted a wish through the Children’s Wish Foundation and he’s heading to Disney World in the fall. He says he’s most excited to meet the characters from Zootopia and go on the rides.
“Well there’s a lot of fun rides and cause it’s my wish to go anywhere I want to go.”
Aiden was born at prematurely, at 24 weeks. Over the past six years his mom says he’s proved just how brave he is.
“He’s had a complicated medical history. He has chronic lung disease and a heart condition called pulmonary hyper tension, so he tires quicker than other kids. He requires oxygen in his daily life to function. He’s had many hospitalizations and illnesses, and surgeries. But he always rallies and he’s full of spit and fire.”
That playful energy is something he uses up with his older brother Liam. Liam says having Aiden as a younger brother has made him a more compassionate person and he can’t wait for the family’s big adventure.
“More caring and understanding for other people with disabilities. Like walking out in public. When people look at him with sappy eyes it’s kind of hard because you look at him now and you don’t see anything wrong. When I was told about the Make a Wish Foundation I was kind of wondering because he’s totally normal.”
For Aiden, the best part of going on trip to Disney World is that the whole family gets to come along.
It will surely be a trip the Barwise family will never forget.
