For the second year in a row, nearly all City of Prince George sport fields, parks, and public washrooms are opening about two weeks ahead of schedule. As of today, these civic facilities that usually open around the first of May are available for all visitors. The Superintendent of Parks, Chris Bjorn, says the roots of the turf have taken hold, allowing for people to get onto the grass.
The exception is the road to Connaught Hill Park, which will remain closed until road rehabilitation and bank stabilization operations are complete. However, people can still climb to the park. The City anticipates that the road and park toilet facilities will be open to the public by the end of April.
However, he says the hardest part now is the fact the City draws much of its Parks work pool from post-secondary institutions, with the students still in exams.
