The Forest Service is introducing a burning restriction in the Prince George Fire Centre at noon tomorrow. That means slash burns, burning in barrels and grass burns and even fireworks are not allowed. However small campfires can go ahead. The Prince George Fire Centre stretches from Valemount to Fraser Lake and north to the Yukon border. The region has already seen 49 wildfires this season, which have burned more than 42 hundred hectares of forest land.
Anyone found in contravention of an open burning prohibition may be issued a violation ticket for $1,150, required to pay an administrative
penalty of $10,000 or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail. If the contravention causes or contributes to a wildfire, the person responsible may be ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs.
