As of Wednesday April 27, Studio 2880 stopped selling tickets. The public can instead visit the Ticketmaster outlet at CN Centre. It’s open Monday-Friday, 10-5:30, and Saturday 9:30-1.
Financial challenges have led the Community Arts Council to lay off 3 staff members: 2 in the gift shop, and the special events coordinator Like many other non-profits, Studio 2880 has been dealing with shrinking funding. Moving forward, it plans to renovate the gift shop, and recruit more volunteers to staff it. Soon, it will be launching a GoFundMe page to raise money for the project.
President Zelda Craig says the council is very sad to let staff go, but is optimistic this crisis will lead to renewed energy and revitalization. The Community Arts Council is best known for events like Studio Fair, and the Chili Cookoff. It plans to soldier on, undergoing a structural reorganization, as well as seeking new funders.
The gift shop is slated to close for the month of July, while it undergoes a renovation. The Arts Council promises the changes will not impact the artisans who rent space in Studio 2880.
