In the wake of a tragic accident at the foot of Peden Hill on Friday, the Ministry of Transportation has announced they have begun an engineering review of the intersection at Highway 16 and Vance Road.
Minister Todd Stone released a statement today, saying:
Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the 15 year-old that was killed at this intersection this past Friday. We will work closely with the police and coroner as they investigate this tragedy.
My ministry is currently initiating an engineering review of this intersection and I`m looking forward to seeing those results and finding a way to make this intersection safer. We expect to have recommendations from the engineering review by the end of this week.
Following these recommendations we intend to see how we can improve safety in the short term. The ministry is already in preliminary planning phases for a long term solution to this intersection, with design work starting in 2017.
Since 2013, ICBC has declared the intersection one of the most dangerous in Northern Central British Columbia.
