It’s Day three of our CKPG Valedictorian Series and today we took a cruise up the Hart Highway to check in with the valedictorian of Kelly Road Secondary.
Morgan Young says she’s just another average human being, but the Grade 12 Student was shocked to be selected as valedictorian. “I was so excited,” Young said. “I think it’s just something that I’m going to be proud of my whole life and I really wanted to make my family proud too.”
A leader among her peers at Kelly Road, she always finds a way to volunteer her time and get everyone involved says Young’s Teacher, Todd Kuc. “They feel like they’re part of the group with her and so they’re ready to do anything with her. She actually kind of makes fund of herself a little but sometimes to kind of motivate others and just say ‘hey, let’s do this, it doesn’t matter how good or bad we are at it.'”
This year, Young starred in two school plays including the Beverly Hillbillies and Snow White. Her biggest love is performing on the stage. “I’ve been performing since I was four with dance or singing or drama,” she said. “I’ve just always loved being the centre of attention I guess.”
Next year, Young plans to go to UNBC to major in Business, but she still has dreams of a career in acting. Whatever the future hold, she tells her grad class to live life as it happens. “Just be ready for the future and if you don’t have it all planned out then it’s OK.”
