There was no shortage of sunshine Sunday as hundreds attended the 2016 Canadian Tire YMCA Road Race and Family Fun run.
More than 300 runners took to the pavement from Masich Place Stadium to compete in Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k events. YMCA Race Coordinator, Tara Legault says the 30th annual event has seen a huge increase from last year, going from 67 kids to now 180 kids racing in the ‘Fun Run.’ “It’s so important for children to be active at a young age,” Legault said. “If you stay active in your adolescence, you will be fit for life, so taking part in events like these helps children to be active for the rest of their lives.”
This year’s ‘Fun Run’ saw kids run around the Masich track up to three times. On each lap, kids ran through their choice of a tunnel of bubbles or coloured powder.
