The province has come through with funding for rural schools, saving a couple in Quesnel from the chopping block. Just over two million will go to four districts in BC, with around a quarter of a million each going to Kersley elementary and Parkland Elementary in Ten Mile Lake. Potential closures of the schools were announced early this spring, with School District 28 facing a budget shortfall of a million dollars. The rural education enhancement fund is open to communities outside the lower mainland with a population of less than 15, 000. The District 28 board is still hinting another budget shortfall will be on the way next school year.
