RCMP Arrest Three People In Stolen Vehicle Investigation

The Prince George RCMP have arrested three people as a result of a stolen vehicle investigation.

Around 8:30 p.m., Thursday, the detachment received a report of a stolen Honda Odyssey minivan from a residence on Castle Road, just off Highway 97 South of Prince George. Shortly after, the vehicle was spotted on Queensway and stopped near the corner of George Street and 3rd Avenue.

The female driver of the vehicle has been identified as 29 year old Holly Ann Sopel. Police say she was aggressive towards police and assaulted an officer who was attempting to arrest her. Two other male passengers in the car were arrested without incident. One of those passengers is a 24 year old Prince George man on the RCMP’s Prolific Offender List. The other man in the vehicle is 42 years old and on parole in Prince George. His parole has since been revoked.

Charges including Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Assaulting a Peace Officer, and Obstructing a Peace Officer have been approved by Provincial Crown Counsel.

Sopel is also believed to have been responsible for shoplifting a retail store last month. On June 13th, a suspect stole approximately 75 dollars worth of hair dye and razors and a had a distinctive tattoo. A surveillance image of the suspect is now enough information for Crown Counsel to approve a charge of Theft Under $5000.

Sopel was held in custody overnight and appeared in court Friday. If you have any other information regarding any criminal offence, you’re asked to call the detachment at (250) 561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
