Invasive Japanese Knotweed In PG

Japanese Knotweed is an invasive plant which is often mistaken as bamboo. The vigorous growing plant can grow through concrete and asphalt. The City of Prince George has treated several sites, and would like to stop the spread before it has a greater effects on native species and infrastructure. The plant was introduced to North America as an exotic plant brought in as an ornamental in the 1930s. Some think its a beautiful plant but it’s very difficult to rid of. The plant has the ability to dominate its surrounding. If you find Japanese knotweed or other invasive species please contact the Northwest Invasive Plant Council at toll-free: 1-866-44WEEDS, or to report a sighting.
