Willowcale Repair Schedule Up For Discussion

Council will be asked next week to step up the schedule on repairs to Willowcale Road. A wash-out shrunk the road at Haggith Creek to single lane traffic in February and Council approved going to Municipal Finance Authority to borrow $1.8 million to build a bridge over Haggith Creek. But, in hiss letter to Council, Finance Director Kris Dalio writes:
“…due to the rapidly deteriorating condition of the road, slower than normal processing times with the Inspector of Municipalities and escalating costs that would be associated with delaying this project into the winter months, it is Administration’s recommendation to change the funding source to immediately address the project.”
To go in house to finance the project would be debt servicing of $121,000 over 20 years.
If Council approves the request on Monday night, the Supervisor of Engineering, Heather Andreychuk says the contract could be awarded in August, with work beginning this Fall.
