Calling it a test in perseverance, local realtor Rod McLeod became emotional when announced a new, long-awaited hotel in downtown Prince George. The development has been more than two years in the making. Originally, it was to be a Delta Hotel. But, today, McLeod says it “is full steam ahead” on a new 174-room, six storey, wood-frame construction hotel. He hailed the Courtyard by Marriott the “perfect fit for Prince George.”
Ryan McRae with Marriott says the company was looking to expand and say the economics of Northern BC and Prince George, in particular, are highly promising.
When we look at the future of British Columbia a lot of the new development that’s going to be happening in the North side of this province is going to centred in and around Prince George.”
This is the first time the developer, PEG Developments out of Provo, Utah has ventured into Canada. The company says the site of the hotel fits perfectly with the style the company looks to, in terms of in-fill development and urbanization.
The work has begun already and two local contractors have been signed on for electrical. The work is slated to be completed in 12 to 14 months.
