After raising more than $550 thousand, Prince George’s Relay for Life has earned the recognition as the top relay fundraiser in Canada. It’s the third consecutive year the title has been won locally.
“We’re so proud that Prince George is once again the number one Relay For Life in the nation. We wouldn’t have achieved the top spot three years in a row without tremendous support from the people of Prince George and some very special and extremely generous participants,” says Aimee Cassie, Annual Giving Coordinator Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon.
119 teams and 1,208 participants raised $557,233.54, with more gifts still coming in. A relay in Terrebonne-Mascouche, Quebec raised $519,000 to place second nationally.
Organizers are already working towards 2017, when the relay celebrates it’s 25th anniversary in the city. “We are going to do our best to beat our fundraising total and keep that title in Prince George for our special 25th anniversary,” said Cassie.
Funds raised through the Relay For Life support The Canadian Cancer Society and it’s mission to to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life of people living with cancer.
