Summer Impaired Campaign, on the Road and Water

The RCMP and their partners would like to remind the public of the dangers of combing alcohol and drugs on lakes and rivers. Local Mounties, ICBC and Conservation Officer Service launched their Summer Impaired Campaign today with a reminder that operating a boat while impaired, is a criminal offence just like driving. Police will be conducting sobriety checks around our lakes and rivers and on area highways. According to ICBC, forty-six percent of all impaired related deaths occur in the summer months. A person found intoxicated while operating a watercraft can be charge for impaired and they also can be charged with driving over the legal limit. Both are criminal code charges and appearance in court in front of a judge.
