Joel McKay has been named as the new CEO of the Northern Development Initiative Trust. He’ll move into his new role October 3rd, following the retirement of Janine North. McKay has been with the Trust since 2012 when he was hired to lead the communications department.
“I feel honoured to have been selected to lead the Trust into its second decade. The north is my home, my family’s home, and I believe very passionately that the best economic decisions for the north should be made in the north,” said McKay.
Since joining the Trust in 2012, McKay has been responsible for leading the Trust’s communications and marketing, economic research and analysis, as well as the Fabulous Festivals and Events funding program. “Joel’s demonstrated commitment to the Trust and his desire to help grow BC’s central and northern economies will serve the Trust well, ” said the Chair of the Trust’s Board of Directors Evan Saugstad.
North will remain CEO until the transition date in an effort to provide the organization with a smooth transition. “Joel has a passion for northern communities and building a stronger economy. He has the vision and service ethic that will drive Northern Development to continued success over the next decade,” said North.
Since it’s establishment in 2005, the Trust has provided $150 million in funding for more than 2,000 projects across central and northern BC, while leveraging $1.2 million in new investment.
