Alyx Treasure is headed to Saturday’s medal round in the women’s high jump at the Rio games. The Prince George Track and Field product cleared a personal best height of 1.94 meters Friday morning in qualifying at Rio’s Olympic Stadium.
Treasure began the competition with clean leaps over the bar at 1.80m, 1.85m, and 1.89m. After missing one attempt at 1.92m, she cleared the bar on her next attempt.
She struggled to clean 1.94m, missing on her first two attempts. But on her third and final attempt, she soared over the bar to set a new personal best.
She is one of 17 women to qualify for the medal round and the only Canadian. Saturday’s medal round is scheduled to begin at 4:30 Pacific time on CBC.
