RCMP have closed River Road from Foley Crescent to Cottonwood Island Park. A witness says police told her a suspicious package was found in the area. Police have not commented on the situation. However police tape and police vehicles are preventing public access to the area. Initially the Railway and Forestry Museum was evacuated, but it has since reopened. Police descended on the scene around 10:30 this morning. We caught up to a witness.
“At 10:30, we saw the police cars drive up and they came to us and told us to lock our doors and stay inside, which we did,” the Executive Director of the Forestry and Railway Museum, Ranjit Gill told CKPG News. “A little while later I went out there and they said ‘No, it’s fine, you can open up.’ A police officer came in and said that they think there’s a bomb and so they’re waiting for the bomb squad, so they’ve got the road closed off.”
As of 1 p.m., police were still blockading River Road.
