Evacuation Alert Rescinded For Norman Lake

An evacuation alert issued Friday for the area around Norman Lake has been rescinded by the Regional District of Fraser Fort-George.

Fire Information Officer with the Prince George Fire Centre, Amanda Reynolds has confirmed the fire is contained.  “The Norman Lake fire is now 100 per cent contained and the fire is currently in mop up,” she said. “We have a unit crew out on the fire today (Sunday) just making sure and just turning over any hot spots on the scene, but crews are making great progress on that fire.”

The fire itself was originally 10 hectares in size, before being completely surrounded with fire retardant and reduced to seven hectares thanks to firefighting efforts.

The Regional District says it expresses its sincere thanks to the firefighting crews for their hard work and containing the fire quickly and effectively. An investigation into the exact cause of the blaze is still ongoing.
