Healthy eating helps diabetics keep their blood sugar in check – but exercise is another essential part of the equation. That’s why the Canadian Diabetes Association is helping locals get active, through “Walk and Talk.” The group heads out to local parks and trails, starting this Saturday at 10am. The program aims to help people get some physical activity, in a supportive, non-competitive group setting. Walk and Talk also offers a different expert each week, who offer tips on health and wellness. Boyanne Young, Branch Coordinator for Northern BC & Yukon, says the event has seen great success, sometimes with over 60 participants at any given time. Her sister, Carla O’Brien, was diagnosed with diabetes 2 years ago. O’Brien says it was an important wake-up call, and since, she’s started cooking diabetes-friendly food, and walking as much as an hour a day. To see the event listing, click here.
