Stats Canada has some strong tourism numbers for BC in the first half of the year. The number of tourists coming to the province in the first half of the year has increased by 12.5% over the same period in 2015. The biggest jump in numbers came from Mexico, at 39%, and China, at 22%.
The month of June this year saw tremendous gains over June of 2015:
China: up 48.8%
Mexico: up 40.2%
Japan: up 22.6%
South Korea: up 21.8%
India: up 20.9%
Locally, the numbers have risen as well. For instance, the numbers from the United States and Mexico are up by 11 to 12 percent, while the numbers from Europe have remained strong. Much of the increases can be attributed to targeted marketing. But the CEO for Tourism Prince George, Erica Hummel, says the lower Canadian dollar helps, too.
