New Rules For Parking Downtown Up For Discussion

Downtown Prince George is pleased with what’s being suggested for new parking regulations in the downtown. A report is going to Council Monday night, asking for first three readings on new regulations, which would allow a motorist to park for three hours per day. New licence plate recognition software would mean moving a vehicle won’t make a difference; parking anywhere in the downtown for more than three hours. The report also proposes Council approve increasing the fines. Instead of $25 for a general infraction, the fine would go to $50. The new fine would be $75 for safety-related infractions, like parking in front on a fire hydrant. Parking in a handicap zone would result in the fine of $100.
