PG Fan Inspiration For Dolly Parton

In 1972, a Prince George family went to Disneyland, and as part of the trip, saw Dolly Parton in concert. 10-year-old Juline Whelan got the star’s autograph. The next year, the queen of country released “Jolene,” a song about a beautiful green-eyed redhead. In an interview years later, Parton says she was inspired to write the song after meeting a young fan named Jolene after a show. When she heard the interview, Whelan was over the moon! As a massive Dolly Parton fan, she could barely believe the song was likely about her! Whelan says people often mispronounce her name, so she doesn’t mind at all that the star called her “Jolene.” Whelan and longtime friend Karin Piche have tickets to Dolly’s September 19 concert in Vancouver. They hope Parton – or her team – hear about the story. Whelan says she would be totally overwhelmed if she got to meet Dolly again, 44 years later!
