Labour Ministers Meeting Tomorrow

The Federal Labour Minister will be joining her provincial and territorial counterparts in Prince George tomorrow. The meeting is co-chaired by BC’s Jobs Minister Shirley Bond and Canada’s Minister of Employment MaryAnn Mihychuk.
The meeting provides an opportunity to share cross-provincial experiences and ideas, and identify challenges in labour.
“It’s great that Prince George is the location for the 2016 federal, provincial and territorial ministers of labour meeting. Prince George is a vibrant, active and diverse community, and I am proud to host my colleagues in Northern B.C. British Columbia currently leads Canada in job creation and economic growth, so it’s a good time to collaborate and discuss labour relations and policy with ministers from across the nation.”
It’s the first time in many years a collection of ministers has come to Prince George, UNBC Political Scientist Jason Morris says it’s a bit of a feather in the cap.
“It’s great for Prince George to be recognized as a place for ministers to come to discuss stuff about governing Canadian. That it’s in Prince George shows we have the capacity of the institutions and probably the human resources to pull it off. Perhaps it could bode well for Prince George hosting a full First Ministers conference in the future. And that would be all the Premiers and Territorial leaders.”
