Construction crews will soon break ground on a brand new community development project in the city.
Alberta-based home developing company, NewRock Developments announced the launch of Ridgestone Villas on Saturday. The new project is located in the Westgate subdivision off of Highway 16 and will be composed of 36 town home units. Developers are creating two and three bedroom plans ranging from 1,270 sq ft. to 1,400 sq ft.
President of NewRock Developments, Cam Ens, says the homes will go on pre-sale now starting at $299,900 for a three bedroom unit in the first phase. “We plan to have our first home open in hopefully May of next year,” he said.
The homes will be open-concept style, complete with a six-piece appliance package, granite counter-tops, laundry, and an attached garage. Ens says it brings a greater variety for Prince George’s housing market. “It gives options for entry level home-buyers,” he said. “As the city grows and starts to become a little bigger, house prices get more expensive and when we can offer a town home development it can bring prices down and lets people get into home ownership maybe sooner than they had thought.”
Mayor Lyn Hall was also on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony. With a shovel in hand, he turned over the sod on what he hopes will be an economic boost to the city. “During construction there’s going to be skill labour jobs, but also it provides our companies here in Prince George that provide various services like electrical, plumbing, heating, and cement, so it helps all of us when it comes to the economy of the city.”
Hall added that these homes are essential for the Prince George housing market and building even more new developments in the future. “We’re starting to see a lot of construction around residential areas and I think we’re going to be seeing a lot more of this kind of thing because there’s a real demand for it.”
Crews will begin work in the next week or two on the future site of Ridgestone Villas located at 6798 Westgate Avenue.
