Spruce Kings Draw With Cents In Season Opener

The Prince George Spruce Kings dropped the puck on their 22nd season Friday night against the Merritt Centennials and what a way to begin their campaign in the thrilling contest.

The action was back and forth all night long in front of just over 1,000 fans. Although it wasn’t a victory for Prince George, the game went down to the wire ending in a 2-2 draw.

Spruce Kings Captain, Brett Mennear opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, while Jamie Huber would add a single later on. Nick Fidanza and Brett Jewell hit back for the Centennials. The game needed an extra overtime frame, but it was too much for both sides to break the dead-lock.

The shots were 35-29 for the Centennials. Prince George now hosts the Penticton Vees at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena Saturday at 7 p.m.
