Cats Wrap Up Pre-Season In Fine Fashion

For a Cats player most people hadn’t heard of before entering a final pre-season bout with the Kamloops Blazers, Yan Khomenko, made his name quite known to the public Friday night at the CN Centre.

The 18-year-old Russian score twice for Prince George en route to a 4-0 pre-season victory. Despite the game going scoreless for the first 40 minutes, additional goals by Colby McAuley and Aaron Boyd would seal the deal.

Both of Khomenko’s goals came from quick shots from the slot area, while McAuley and Max Martin also recorded two point games. Between the pipes, the goaltending duo of Nick McBride and Tavin Grant combined for a 28 save shut-out performance.

Prince George outshot Kamloops 31-28 and went one for four on the powerplay.

The Cougars end their pre-season with a 3-3 record and now take a week off before beginning the 2016/17 season next Friday September 23rd on the road to last year’s B.C. Division Champions, the Victoria Royals.
