After a 5-1 loss on Wednesday, the Prince George Spruce Kings just couldn’t crack the code on the high flying Wenatchee Wild Friday night in a 7-3 loss on home ice.
It didn’t take long for the Wild to get on the board with a goal from Jimmy O’Brien just two minutes into the game. Later on in the frame, Charlie Combs would add a powerplay goal for Wenatchee to put the Wild up 2-0.
Just a few minutes later, Prince George grinded out a goal as Chong Lee tucked one home on the powerplay. The Wild quickly put the Spruce Kings celebration to an end though. All it took was 14 more seconds for Wenatchee’s Brian Williams to find the back of the net to finish off the first period with a 3-1 advantage.
Things didn’t get much better in the second. Spruce Kings Goaltender, Stefan Wornig was pulled after Mathew Baker flicked a shot upstairs to make it 4-1 for the Wild.
Tanner Campbell responded for Prince George with a goal just 15 seconds later, but Wenatchee goals from Dakota Raabe and Jasper Weatherby put the game nearly out of reach for the Spruce Kings.
Lee would add his second of the night for Prince George in the third frame, although it was too little too late for the Spruce Kings who were out-shot 43-18 in the contest.
Wenatchee improves to 2-0, while Prince George falls on the season to 0-3-0-1.
Both clubs will reconvene 7 p.m. Saturday at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena for a third and final meeting this week.
