UNBC To Start Christmas Tree Farm

UNBC’S Forestry Club is getting into the Christmas tree business. It was an idea spawned by a Forestry 408 class in 2013 and the pitch wad made to UNBC. Three hectares of land at the north end of the campus will be home to the tree farm. The agreement was signed off between all the parties yesterday afternoon. The plan to to plan 3,000 “stems” per hectare. Trees suitable for apartments and dorm rooms should be ready for 2023. The money raised from tree sales will go toward things like bursaries and charities.
“Having the chance to provide an area for students and the local community to pick the perfect tree will be exciting and I hope the work we put into the Christmas Tree Farm will add to future success,” say fourth-year Forestry student Marc Howard, who will manage the farm in 2017.
The farm will involve a mix of spruce and Douglas fir.
