Today is the official start of province-wide campaign Operation Hang-Up in our city. Prince George RCMP, along with ICBC, and Citizens on Patrol, are setting up in three different places in the city watching for drivers on their cell phones. Drivers found using their hand-held devices while driving through the morning checkpoint on Ospika boulevard were pulled over by police. A driver caught holding an electronic device can be fined $368 and points against their driver’s licence. The message coming from law enforcement is simple – If you must use your cell phone, pull over to the side of the road where it is safe to do so.
