Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus; Playing for Peace

Living in a democratic country; far removed from war, it is often easy to forget about struggles in other parts of the world. That is until you meet a group of people who share their hardships through the universal language; music. The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus played in Prince George on Wednesday, raising money and awareness for the conflict in Ukraine. Last year the group raised over $188,000 for displaced families. Conductor of the symphony, Wes Janzen, says “Ukraine currently has 1.6 million people that have fled zones of conflict and war, and many of them have left with just the shirts on their back; hardly even a suitcase.”

He says until they see a change in their country, they will continue to play for peace.”We just believe music is better than bombs and the gospel of peace is better than guns… so we do what we can.”
