As UNBC opens its doors to new students, so are its clubs. The Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) says student led organizations (SLO’s) help freshmen transition into university life. Seth Jex has been a member of the Political Science Student Association for two years and says clubs have a large impact on a student’s first year.
“SLO’s are ninety percent of first year experience, it’s only ten percent of what a university student [during the] first year walks away with is actually classroom material,” said Seth Jex. “Most of it is meeting friends, going to events, making social connections and building a sense of community and a support network around them.”
There are nearly 50 different SLO’s offered at the university for students to participate in. Some of the clubs vary from drama to fencing and even A Capella clubs. For students looking for more information on SLO’s, visit nugss.unbc.ca
