After giving up two goals within the first three minutes of the game, the Cats managed to keep their perfect record alive, surging right back to defeat the Vancouver Giants 5-2 at home Friday night.
Cougars Coach, Richard Matvichuk had warned his boys not to underestimate the fast starting Giants club as Thomas Foster got Vancouver on the board just 57 into the game, while Jack Flaman would sneak one past Ty Edmonds for a fast 2-0 cushion.
However, the Cougars treated this game more like a marathon than a sprint to the finish. Staying cool, calm, and collected, Prince George would score three unanswered goals in the first period to seal the victory.
It’s now a seventh straight win for Prince George all thanks to some big help from returning player Jesse Gabrielle (Boston, 105th Overall) and Jansen Harkins (Winnipeg, 47th Overall).
Gabrielle got his name on the score sheet twice during the night which included a short-handed goal and an assist for a first star performance. Meanwhile, fellow line mate, Harkins managed two assists in the game, while Kody McDonald put away his third goal of the season.
Prince George is ranked as the number one team in the CHL. The Cats also boast the best penalty killing percentage in the league, killing off 33 of 34 penalty killing situations so far.
Both clubs are back in action 7 p.m. Saturday at CN Centre.
