Rising Housing Starts Good For Prince George

According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, housing starts are on the rise throughout most of the province. In Prince George, inventory on new units is up; especially on multiple family homes. There are also more buyers. “I poll builders whenever I get a chance,” says Jody Tindill, President of the Canadian Home Builders Association of Northern BC . “Even just yesterday I was asking what their outlook is for next year, and they are all very optimistic for 2017. A lot of us are booked right now until the spring.”

Retired Economist, Allan Idiens, says rising housing starts means more money is kept in the local economy. “A lot of the value of a house- it costs $300,000 to build a house on average these days, maybe a bit more- a large part of that is going into wages…which gets earned and then spent mainly within the community.”
