Council has moved the proposed new regulations around smoking and the use of e-cigarettes to the next level. A presentation was made in which Staff laid out the process it undertook to gauge public appetite for the proposed bylaw. Between September and November of last year, nearly 600 residents filled out the survey and 70% of responded in favour of a bylaw. However the bylaw was put on hold while the Province of BC looked at its own laws around smoking and vaping. Council also gave the first two readings to endorsing the Canadian Cancer Society’s request of the Province to restrict smoking and vaping in outdoor public places, like parks. The matter will come back to Council for a public hearing on December 5th.
