On a night to show appreciation for our veterans, the Prince George Spruce Kings fought a hard battle, but still couldn’t manage to get away with the victory en-route to a 3-3 tie with the Coquitlam Express.
The Spruce Kings were all over the Express in the first period, out-shooting their opposition 17-4, although it still remained scoreless. Finally in the second period, PG would get on the board with goals from Jamie Huber, Adam Burnett, and Chong Lee to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.
Coquitlam’s Keegan Jones would knot up the score with a goal early in the third period. Two extra overtime periods would solve nothing as the game ended in a 3-3 draw.
Prince George out-shot Coquitlam 57-18 in the stalemate effort which saw Express goalie Lawson Fenton stop 54 shots. The Spruce Kings now sit in third place in the Mainland Division with Coquitlam just two points behind with a game in hand.
Both clubs will rematch 7 p.m. Saturday at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
