The two UNBC students arrested in the North Dakota pipeline protest are safely back in Canada. Nicole Schafenacker and Katriona Auerbach were allowed to return home after being taken into custody last week. They are expected to arrive in Prince George sometime this evening, November 2nd. They will seek legal advice before speaking with the media.
Associate Professor of the UNCB Medical Program and supervisor of the students, Dr. Sarah de Leeuw, says she is incredibly proud of the girls. She adds they are exhausted from their drive back to Canada, and are likely looking to return to some normalcy.
The girls could face charges of trespassing and conspiracy. They are expected to appear in a North Dakota courtroom next month.
