CNC Pipefitters Won't Have To Go South For Second-Year Training

Students enrolled in the Steamfitter/Pipefitter Apprenticeship Training Program at the College of New Caledonia will no longer have to move away from home to complete their second year of school.

The College is now offering a second-year training program after hearing from industry there is a high demand.

Work BC lists Steamfitter/Pipefitter as number 10 on the Top 16 In-Demand Trades through 2025, and it’s anticipated 800 job openings will occur over the next decade.

David Sewell will be instructing the course come January 3rd. He says the College is now accepting applications from anyone who has completed the Piping Foundation Program or the level one Steamfitter/Pipefitter Apprenticeship Training Program.

“Pipefitting as apposed to plumbing is more industrial; mining, pipelines, those types of things. The hope is that if and when we get all that work in the north, those students will be right here.”
